My brother recieved 18months with no parole for a jewellery theft of $25,000 from a store.He is appealing this?

He walked into a store seen a tray on counter and walked away with this tray of jewellery it was worth 25k he later discovered he sold the jewellery and was caught a week later he had his case heard the next day and was sentenced to 18months in jail with no parole by the magistrates court judge?
He is choosing to appeal this sentence at the county court the date is sentence and im wondering does anybody have any thoughts on how they think this will go?
